Conditioned stimuli - When unconditioned stimuli is repeatedly or strongly paired with neutral stimuli the neutral stimuli becomes conditioned stimuli, for instance after being stung the sight or sound of a bee may produce a negative sensation in the organism.
Sensory neuron - Sensory neurons are nerve cells within the nervous system responsible for converting external stimuli from the organism's environment into internal electrical impulses. For example, some sensory neurons respond to tactile stimuli and can activate motor neurons in order to achieve muscle contraction.
Immediate early gene - Immediate early genes (IEGs) are activated transiently and rapidly in response to a wide variety of cellular stimuli. They represent a standing response mechanism that is activated at the transcription level in the first round of response to stimuli, before any new proteins are synthesized.
Weber–Fechner law - The Weber–Fechner law attempts to describe the relationship between the physical magnitudes of stimuli and the perceived intensity of the stimuli. Ernst Heinrich Weber (1795–1878) was one of the first people to approach the study of the human response to a physical stimulus in a quantitative fashion.
