Nara period - The Nara period (Japanese: 奈良時代, Nara-jidai) of the History of Japan covers the years from about AD 710 to 794. Empress Genmei established the capital of Heijō-kyō (present-day Nara), where it remained the capital of Japanese civilization until Emperor Kammu established a new capital Nagaoka-kyō at Nagaoka in 784 before moving to Heian-kyō, or Kyoto, a decade later in 794.
Yamato period - The Yamato period (Japanese: 大和時代, Yamato-jidai), better known as the Kofun period, is the period of Japanese history when the Japanese Imperial court ruled from modern-day Nara Prefecture, then known as Yamato Province.
Buddhism in Japan - The history of Buddhism in Japan can be roughly divided into three periods, namely the Nara period (up to 784), the Heian period (794-1185) and the post-Kamakura period (1185 onwards). Each period saw the introduction of new doctrines and upheavals in existing schools.
Heijo Palace - in Nara, was the Imperial Palace of Japan during the Nara Period (710-784 CE). The remains of the palace, and the surrounding area, was established as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998 along with a number of other buildings, as the "Historic Monuments of Ancient Nara," and is located in the vicinity of today's Yamatokoriyama, outside the city of Nara proper.
