Military glider - Gliders built by the military of various countries were used for carrying troops and heavy equipment, mainly during the Second World War. Military gliders were towed into the air and most of the way to their target by military transport planes eg DC-3 Dakota, or obsolete bombers, eg Short Stirling.
List of military aircraft of the United States - This list of military aircraft of the United States includes prototype, pre-production and operational types. Sortie - Sortie is a term for deployment of one military aircraft or a ship for the purposes of a specific mission, whether alone, or with other aircraft or vessels. In military aviation, it is used to indicate the total usages of individual machines, so that (for example) a group of five planes flying five missions would amount to 25 sorties.
Air Transport Command - The Air Transport Command was the World War II-era Army Air Corps (later Army Air Force) unit focused on transportation of troops and supplies. It was composed almost entirely of cargo planes, and was the precursor to what became the Air Force Military Air Transport Service, then Military Airlift Command and eventually the Air Mobility Command.
