Watts linkage - The Watts linkage is an automotive rear suspension designed in the early twentieth century as an improvement over the Panhard rod as a means of locating a rear beam axle of an automobile relative to the body and preventing relative movement side to side. Whereas the Panhard rod is pivoted at both axle and body forcing the axle to move in an arc, thus introducing a sideways component into the vertical movement of the axle, the Watts linkage ensures pure vertical motion.
Four bar linkage - A four bar linkage or simply a 4-bar or four-bar is the simplest movable linkage. It consists of 4 rigid bodies (called bars or links), each attached to two others by single joints or pivots to form a closed loop.
Peaucellier-Lipkin linkage - The Peaucellier-Lipkin linkage (or Peaucellier-Lipkin cell), invented in 1864, was the first linkage capable of transforming rotary motion into perfect straight-line motion. It is named after Charles-Nicolas Peaucellier (1832-1913), a French army officer, and Lippman Lipkin, of Lithuania.
