Kamakura period - The Kamakura period (Japanese: 鎌倉時代, Kamakura-jidai; 1185–1333) is a period of Japanese history that marks the governance of the Kamakura Shogunate; officially established in 1192 by the first Kamakura shogun Minamoto no Yoritomo.
Kamakura shogunate - The Kamakura shogunate (Japanese: 鎌倉幕府, Kamakura bakufu) was a feudal military dictatorship ruled by the shoguns from 1185 (or 1192, when it was formally recognized) to 1333 CE. Based in Kamakura, Japan, this period draws its name from the capital of the shogunate and is known as the Kamakura period.
