English folklore - English folklore is the folk tradition which has developed in England over a number of centuries. Some English legends can be traced back to their roots, even predating the Roman invasion of Britain, while the origin of others is uncertain or disputed.
English studies - The academic discipline of English studies explores the production and analysis of texts produced in English (or in areas of the world in which English is a common mode of communication). Academic departments of English Studies often include scholars of literature, rhetoric, composition, literacy, film, English language, professional communication, folklore, cultural studies, creative writing, critical theory, disability studies, and digital media.
German folklore - German folklore shares many characteristics with Scandinavian folklore and English folklore due to their origins in a common Germanic mythology. It reflects a similar mix of influences: a pre-Christian pantheon and other beings equivalent to those of Norse mythology; magical characters (sometimes recognisably pre-Christian) associated with Christian festivals, and various regional 'character' stories.
Hag - A hag (or crone) is a kind of malevolent, wizened old woman often found in folklore and children's tales such as Hansel and Gretel. The term appears in Middle English, and might be short for hægtesse, an Old English term for witch.
